Wayne F. Abba is an executive advisor and principal of Abba Consulting, a management consulting firm based in Virginia, USA. Mr. Abba is an Internationally-recognized spokesperson for program management using Earned Value Management (EVM). With over 30 years’ experience in program analysis and a worldwide reputation as a leader in acquisition improvement, he was integrally involved in the complete reengineering of US Department of Defense (DoD) contract cost and schedule management policies and implementation. Dr. Martin Barnes is an informative, perceptive and engaging speaker. He has lectured and delivered training in project management in 22 countries around the world. He is President of the Association for Project Management (APM), the professional body for project managers in the UK. He was a founding member of APM in 1972. He was APM Chair in the 1980s and was named an APM Honorary Fellow in 1995. Martin has a civil engineering degree from the University of London and a PhD from the University of Manchester. His doctorate was awarded in 1971 for research into improved methods of financial control for engineering projects. Martin Barnes invented the classic Time/Cost/Quality triangle and other project management techniques over the years. He built up his own PM business over 15 years until it merged with what is now PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1985. Now a consultant in project management, Martin was also Executive Director of the Major Projects Association (MPA) for nine years until 2006. Dr Barnes has advised on significant projects in many countries in Europe, Asia and Africa, for the World Bank, other funding agencies, governments, promoters and major contractors. He has worked on projects in the infrastructure, engineering, defence, aerospace, IT, financial, business change and media sectors. Martin’s BBC television programme on project management is used as a training aid in many countries. Martin led the team that developed the New Engineering Contract (NEC), a system of contracts designed to facilitate and stimulate the use of modern project management across all the contributors to a project. The NEC is now widely used in the UK and in other countries and is recommended by the UK government for all publicly funded projects. Martin Barnes has been active in the IPMA since 1972, having attended all but one of its world congresses since that year. He has been a keynote speaker at many of them. He is an Honorary Fellow of IPMA and a former Chairman of its Council. Dr Barnes is a recipient of the Chartered Institute of Management’s Special Award and of the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Watson Medal in the UK, both for his personal contributions to the development of project management. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the UK’s highest engineering recognition, and is a Churchill Fellow.

Adesh Jain is M. Eng, CPP, MPD, is Managing Director of the Centre for Excellence in Project Management (CEPM) Ltd. (India), President of PM Guru, Inc. (USA), and Honorary President of Project Management Associates (PMA - India). Adesh is the immediate past president and current Chair of the Council of Delegates for the International Project Management Association (IPMA), and is Chair of the IPMA Nation to Nation Forum. Adesh’s career includes 40 years of project-oriented work, including projects for Litton Industries and Control Data Corporation in the USA in the early 1970s. In 1973, Adesh returned to India where he became No. 2 in one of the largest steel plants in India. In 1975, Adesh was asked by Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, the largest Indian Government engineering undertaking, to head their IT and Project Management services, the youngest CEO ever to head a division there. He became Chairman of the Heavy Engineering Group in 1982. In 1991, the President of India honored him with a Fellowship award for laying a strong foundation for the IT industry in India. He has since been conferred with 6 major awards in India, including the 'Gem of India' award. Adesh started the CEPM in 1992, and founded PMA, India - a-not-for-profit registered society in 1993. He was elected to the steering committee for the Global PM Forum in 1996 and received a Distinguished Contribution Award from the Project Management Institute (PMI®) in the USA in 1997. In January 1999, Adesh became the first non-European to become a Vice President of IPMA, serving three terms through 2004. He was elected President of IPMA for 2005-2006 and IPMA Chair for two years beginning January 2007. He is Honorary Chairman of the China Project Management Committee (CPMC), the first non-Chinese to enjoy such a privilege. In 2001, he was invited to give a keynote presentation in the Great Hall of China at a UNIDO conference. During the last two years, Adesh has been a keynote speaker at major conferences in Abu Dhabi, China, Sweden, Poland, Thailand, and Turkey. For the last ten years, he has organized and managed an international PM conference in New Delhi, and he was the organizer and project manager of the 19th IPMA World Congress held in New Delhi in November 2005, the first IPMA congress outside of Europe and the largest IPMA congress ever held. Adesh Jain has a BS in Mathematics and BS in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a MS in Control Systems from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. David Mathie is an internationally recognized project management expert.
Born in Hornsby, NSW, Australia he is currently an executive consultant, executive director of QRE P/L, & Monte Christo Properties P/L, and a director of two US companies: iWorld Projects and Systems, Inc. and PMForum, Inc. Trained in electronics, David held engineering and management positions in industry before turning to management consulting; he developed his management & consultancy skills across different industrial sectors (including aerospace & defense, oil & gas and resorts & hospitality) and cultural environments in many countries (Great Britain, Czech & Slovak Republics, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Russia, USA). Fluent in Italian, he also speaks conversational French, German & Dutch and some Russian. He is currently heavily involved in beach resort real estate development on Curtis Island and in providing management consulting to private industry in Europe. Briefly, David was headhunted from Marconi (UK) to Phillips (NL) in 1969. From there he went to Paris (FR) in 1971 where he set up a small Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) company contracting to Phillips, Hewlett-Packard & Panavia. In 1972 he was headhunted to assist the Italian Government develop a systems support organization to manage their avionics portion of the Tornado (MRCA) program. He subsequently built up an ILS consultancy practice in Italy, which was sold in 1980. From 1976 to 1984 he helped develop the Artemis Project Management Information System, developed the Italian market and assisted in international sales efforts; when Artemis was sold he remained a consultant (sales, management & training) until early 1987. He built up an Italian-based, boutique international management consultancy practice (Consulenza Project Management - CPM) from 1978 to 1994, which was sold to the Italian practice of Ernst & Whinney in mid-1989. He was a partner in Reconta Ernst & Young (REY) and, in 1993, Ernst & Young Consultants (Italy) was formed, with David as a founding partner. David resigned from E&Y and returned to Australia in December of 1996 for family reasons. He formed Mathie Pells & Associates (MPA) in early 1997. An IPMA (formerly INTERNET) Member since 1978, David was a founding Member of the Italian Association of Project Management in 1984. He served on the board from 1984 to 1995 and as Chairman from 1987 to 1989. He also served on the Board of ANIMP (Associazione Nazionale Impiantistica - Italian National Association of the Engineering & Construction Industry) from 1987 to 1995. He was an IPMA Vice President from 1991 thru 1994. David is a Life Member of the Society of Logistics Engineers (SOLE); Foundation Member of the SOLE Northern Italy Chapter (1976); and isListed in Who's Who Italy 1993. He is widely known for having significantly contributed to the development of the Project Management profession in Italy. He has also been a member of the Project Management Institute (off and on) since 1987. Tom became an enthusiastic project manager in his early 20s in the 1970s. His project experience is mainly in U.K. usually with a construction aspect. He has covered a wide selection of sectors, project types, client bodies, contract forms, procurement routes, project teams and mixtures of activities (programmes). Projects with profile include the Cable and Wireless College, the RADA Centenary Project and the National Tennis Centre for the Lawn Tennis Association. He has also been a consultant, advisor, trouble-shooter and expert witness. Employment has included ARUP, KF Baker and Partners and Laing Management Contracting. In 1985 Tom was a joint founder of Buro Four an eminent UK project management outfit and its initial chairman for fifteen years. He is now a retained advisor. He also provides project management related services and products through dashdot.
Tom has been an active volunteer and contributor to the Association for Project Management (APM) progressing from branch committee member to London Branch chairman to Council Representative to Executive Board member to APM Chairman (2004-06) to current Vice President and recipient of the inaugural APM President’s Medal in 2007 – and all in only twenty years! He is proud to be a Certificated Project Manager (CPM) and Fellow of APM. He also has links with IPMA and other member associations particularly supporting involvement of next generation project managers. He is an innovative supporter and promoter of the involvement of managers of projects in Sustainability, the Environment and Green Issues. He is an occasional PM lecturer at the Bartlett School of Architecture – London and at Bath University, as well as being an external PM examiner at U.C.L.
Tom is an author of articles, media pieces and books including “How to Select the Right Project Manager”, “Characteristics of Effective Project Managers”, “Management in Practice” and “GMPM” – with others in preparation. Tom presents in English with good humour, sometimes with PowerPoint or video or flipchart support, with handout notes where appropriate, and provides opportunities for delegate participation through exercises and debate – and if the attendees do not ask questions of him then he will ask questions of them!

Michel Thiry, MSc, FAPM, PMI Fellow, is Managing Partner of Valense Ltd. He has over 30 years of worldwide professional experience and has worked in many cultural environments. He graduated as an architect and has worked on a number of major construction projects for over 20 years. Following a fruitful career in construction, he has now focused on combining his Value, Project and Program Management expertise to organizational issues. Michel is recognized as a worldwide authority on strategic applications of project, program and value management and has supported the development and implementation of a number of strategic programs for large multinational organizations. Michel is a regular Keynote Speaker for major International events and a Seminar Leader for the Project Management Institute’s PMI® SeminarsWorld since 2001. He is a visiting professor at Henley Management College (UK), UTS in Sydney (Australia) and École Polyfinance Business School in Casablanca (Morocco). He provides his expertise to major organizations, in various fields, including construction, financial, pharmaceutical, IT and IS, telecom, water treatment, transportation (air and rail), local government and others.
He has written and lectured widely in International forums, both at the Academic and Practice levels. He is author of the book “Value Management Practice”, published by the PMI®. He has also written a number of book chapters on Value, Program and Portfolio Management in prominent PM books, including the Gower “Handbook of project management” 3rd and 4th editions and the “Wiley Guide to Managing Projects”, published by Wiley. He is a regular writer and referee for the International Journal of Project Management and a contributing editor for PM Network. Michel holds a Bachelors degree in Architecture from the University of Montreal, Canada, and a Masters of Science (MSc) degree in Organizational Behaviour from the School of Management and Organizational Behaviour at the University of London and is currently pursuing a PhD. In 2006 he was awarded PMI Fellowship for his continued contribution to project management and in 2007 he was named a Fellow of the Association for Project Management (UK). He is an active member of the Academy of Management, American Institute of Architects (AIA), APM, PMI, Institute of Value Management (UK) and SAVE International (Value Engineers). Michel is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP); a certified Trainer in Value Management, certified by the European Governing Board (EGB), and an MSP Advanced Practitioner certified by the APM Group (UK).

Rebecca Winston, Esq., JD, PMI Fellow, is a former Chair of the board of the Project Management Institute (PMI®). An experienced expert on the subject of project management (PM) in the fields of research & development (R&D), energy, environmental restoration and national security, she is well known throughout the United States and globally as a leader in the PM professional world. Rebecca has over 25 years of experience in program and project management, primarily on programs funded by the US government. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska’s College of Law, Juris Doctorate (1980), in Lincoln, Nebraska and has a Bachelor’s of Science (BS) degree in Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and a Master’s Degree in Biology from Idaho State University in the USA. She is a licensed attorney in the states of Iowa and Nebraska, USA. Active in PMI since 1993, Rebecca Winston helped pioneer PMI's Specific Interest Groups (SIGs) in the nineties, including the Project Earth and Government SIGs, and was a founder and first co-chair of the Women in Project Management SIG. She served two terms on the PMI board of directors as director at large, Secretary Treasurer, Vice Chair (for two years), and Chair (2002). She was elected a PMI Fellow in 2005. She is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Association of Female Executives in the United States. Ms. Winston currently serves as a consultant to organizations such as the National Nuclear Security Administration (USA), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on topics ranging from Program and Project Management to project reviews, risk management and vulnerability assessments. She has extensive recent PM experience in the areas of national defense and security, and has worked closely with local, regional and national officials, including Congress and the Pentagon.
