PMI CHAIR IAIN FRASER ANNOUNCES PRIORITIES FOR 2006

Speaking to the opening general session of PMI’s Global Congress Asia Pacific yesterday, PMI Chair Iain Fraser outlined the Institute’s key priorities for 2006.

Significantly, he announced PMI would introduce a new program manager credential in 2006, adding to the PMP and CAPM certifications it already offers. He cited a survey of employers and practitioners with 84% of respondents calling for a credential for mature project managers.

Continuing to stress “maturity”, he announced that PMI would continue to focus on accreditation, reporting that 13 academic institutions, in Australia, Germany, South Africa, and the USA, are in various stages of the accreditation process.

Fraser also described considerable standards activity in 2006, including the publication of standards for program and portfolio management, both to be released at the PMI Global Congress EMEA in Madrid, Spain in May.

Fraser made his remarks in Bangkok, Thailand, where PMI’s Global Congress Asia Pacific is underway. The Congress opened Monday afternoon and will continue through Wednesday. It is the first of four congresses planned for 2006, with others scheduled for Madrid, Spain; Seattle, Washington, USA; and Santiago, Chile; in May, October, and November, respectively.
