Alcides Santopietro in São Paulo Becomes Second International Correspondent for pmforum.org
Mr. Alcides Santopietro has become the second International Correspondent for www.pmforum.org. Mr. Santopietro is founder and partner in Proage, a project management technology, consulting and training company based in São Paulo, Brazil. Alcides has conceived and currently directs the development of a winning PM software product named GP3, now in use in Latin America and Europe. Alcides has also been creating and coordinating on-site, e-learning and outdoor training courses and works as an adjunct professor in MBA disciplines in Brazil.

Mr. Santopietro graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree from the Universidade de São Paulo (USP), one of the best academic universities in Latin America according to the 2005 Academic Ranking of World Universities. He earned an award for his graduation project, deemed the best among his graduating colleagues.

After graduating from USP, he studied Marketing and Project Management, accumulating two post-graduate diplomas. He has also earned his Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI®). He is currently a participant in PMI’s Leadership Institute Masters Class 2007, a global initiative established by PMI to enhance leadership skills and identify new global leaders for PMI.

Mr. Santopietro has worked for Santista Têxtil S/A, a leading textile company in Brazil, and for Motorola Industrial Ltd., where he initiated his career in Project Management. After working for those companies, Alcides worked for a short period of time as an autonomous consultant in companies such as Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional, the major metalworks company in Brazil. Since then, Alcides has worked intensively with Project Management at Proage. He has created training courses in different formats: from the traditionally presented course to the innovative "Trilha Gantt", a one-day trekking and training program that joins project management concepts with practical team work experiences and which takes place in an outdoor environment.

Alcides conceived and developed the Project Management Software program named GP3 that has evolved since its creation in 2002 and has now been used by over 1,400 professionals in Brazil, Chile, Argentina and recently also in Spain. At this moment he directs the continued development of the software and a partnership program for its expansion. In parallel with his activities at Proage, Alcides has been a professor for MBA and post-graduation courses as well as speaker at workshops and conferences, always dealing with themes related to Project Management.

Alcides is also a passionate and active volunteer promoting the PM profession in Brazil. Last year he was the Project Manager for the 5th International Project Management Seminar promoted by PMI São Paulo Chapter, a 500-attendee event that reached all goals for the project. This year, he is a member of the leading team which organizes the 6th edition of the event with an expected audience of more than 700. Alcides has also been researching best practices of volunteer management in order to build a compilation of results to be spread to the PM community.

São Paulo is the largest and most populous city in the Southern Hemisphere, with over 19 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area. The city is the financial heart of Brazil, one of the world’s largest countries with a rapidly growing economy and increasing influence in world affairs. Business professionals in Brazil are also increasingly active in Project Management, where 13 PMI Chapters have been formed around the country in the last ten years. The PMI São Paulo Chapter was the first in Brazil, is the largest PMI chapter in Latin America, and has played a leadership role in advancing the project management profession throughout Brazil.

Alcides lives in São Paulo with his wife, Andrea, an active entrepreneur currently teaching foreign language to business executives and also working in the beauty care industry. Mr. Santopietro is pleased to be reached at alcides.santopietro@gmail.com or through Skype (alcides.santopietro).
