Tasmanian Roads Project Wins 2006 AIPM Regional PM Award
The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) has announced that a project involving the assessment of the Australian Capital Territory’s motor registry system (rego.act) to determine its suitability for introduction into the Tasmanian environment has won the 2006 Tasmanian Project Management Achievement Award (PMAA). AIPM organises the PMAA awards each year to recognise excellence in project management in each State of Australia

AIPM Tasmanian Chapter President Kath O’Toole said the State’s Project of the Year, announced on Saturday, August 26, was an impressive achievement given the unique nature of the evaluation procedure that had been developed and undertaken by the MRProject.

“The project’s success relied heavily on involving a range of government agencies working closely together at all stages” Ms O’Toole said.

The MRProject, within the Tasmanian Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources, negotiated a License Agreement with the ACT for the rego.act application and undertook an evaluation of rego.act over a six month period.
The involvement of key stakeholders was viewed as critical to the evaluation process, particularly as the outcome eventually resulted in a change from building a totally new system to one of adopting an existing system

The island of Tasmania is an Australian state, located 200 km south of the eastern side of the continent, separated from it by Bass Strait. Tasmania has a population of 485,000 and an area of 68 332 km² (26,383 square miles). Tasmania promotes itself as the Natural State owing to its large, and relatively unspoilt, natural environment. 40% of Tasmania is formally in reserves, National Parks and World Heritage Sites.

The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) represents and promotes project management Australia-wide. The organisation also offers a recognition framework for project management and project managers in Australia. AIPM was formed 30 years ago and has since grown to more than 5,500 individual members and 120 corporate members. The membership represents a diverse range of industries including finance, human resources, government, defence, engineering and construction. For more information, visit www.aipm.com.au.
