APM 2007 Project of the Year Award goes to BAE Systems
Reported by Miles Shepherd from the UK

The Association for Project Management (APM), the main project management professional society in the United Kingdom (UK), has announced that the 2007 Project of the Year Award has been won by BAE Systems for the Availability Transformation Tornado Aircraft Contract (ATTAC), a new and innovative solution developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF) Tornado Fleet. The award was presented at a glittering ceremony on Tuesday 30th October at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London on the first evening of APM’s two-day national Project Management Conference.

APM’s Project of the Year award goes to the company with a project delivered within the UK whose outcomes and results aligned most closely to its objectives, completed or successfully commissioned during the year. The focus is on the project, the difficulties encountered and how they were overcome, along with the success of the final outcome, measured in terms applicable to the project. Successful projects deliver results for the customer and the stakeholders, as well as the project itself.

Projects turn visions into reality, and project management achieves that reality effectively and efficiently to the benefit of all. Through the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques, it should be demonstrated that the requirements of the project can be met. Runners up this year included Project Kearsley by Siemens and the Thirlmere Aqueduct Refurbishment by MWH. This year’s APM Project of the Year award was sponsored by Siemens.

The APM Project Management Awards reward and celebrate project management successes and reflect the invaluable contribution project management and project managers make in all sections of society. Individual winners receive an exclusive trophy (pictured) by British designer Nigel Cripps presented at the Awards dinner, a winner’s certificate, use of a winner’s logo, featured in publicity throughout the year, featured as a case study on the APM Awards website and in the APM Awards brochure. Runners-up receive a certificate, use of a finalists’ logo, featured in awards publicity, announced as a finalist at the awards dinner, featured on the APM awards website. Names of award winners and runners-up appear in the Project magazine awards special.

The Association for Project Management (APM) is the national body for professional project management in the United Kingdom (UK). With over 15,000 individual and 390 corporate members, APM is one of the largest organizations of its kind in Europe. The organization develops and promotes project management across all sectors of industry and beyond. APM's mission is: "To develop and promote the professional disciplines of project and programme management for the public benefit."
