A Strategic View of Project Management! Leading Japanese Strategist to Keynote March PMAJ Symposium in Tokyo
The Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ) has announced an important first keynote speech to be delivered at the “International Project & Program Management Symposium Tokyo 2008 – In pursuit of organizational project management value.” The two-day symposium will be held in Tokyo, Japan during 10-11 March 2008.

Mr. Jitsuro Terashima, Strategist, Executive Managing Officer, Mitsui & Co., Global Strategic Study Institute, Japan – will speak on the “Strategic View of Project Management”. Mr. Jitsuro Terashima, is one of Japan’s top global strategists. He is Managing Director of Mitsui & Company, and CEO and President of the Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute. He also serves as Chairman of The Japan Research Institute and Professor at Waseda University's Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies.

Mr. Terashima obtained a master’s degree in political science at Waseda University, Tokyo and joined Mitsui & Company, Japan’s leading trading company, in 1973. He has extensive experience in the company’s global operations, and global strategic studies for the company and Japan in general. He was in the United States for 16 years; following a stint at the Brookings Institution, he was Head of Strategic Planning at Mitsui’s New York Office and General Manager of their Washington DC Office. Mr. Terashima has been in his current position at Mitsui since 1999.

Mr. Terashima’s speech will be one of five keynotes at the Tokyo symposium, which will also feature presentations and papers by project management experts and leaders from around the world. Mr. Terashima’s speech will be the first keynote on Monday, March 10, at 9:50 a.m.

According to Symposium Project Director Dr. Hiroshi Tanaka, “Mr. Terashima is a well-known strategic thinker and speaker in Japan. His involvement in our conference is also significant because the strategic aspects of project and program management have become more critical for success in the global marketplace. We expect his speech to become a key reference for the global project management community.”

The March 2008 symposium will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Japan’s foundation of the professional project management society. The symposium will demonstrate “project management as new economic infrastructure and a driver for social development and transformation”.

The symposium is being supported by major Japanese corporations and government agencies, including the Ministry of Economy, Trade & Industry (METI).

The symposium will be conducted on Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th March 2008 at Tower Hall, Funabori, Tokyo, Japan. Approximately 400 delegates are expected from 20 or more countries. The sponsoring organization is PMAJ, with full support expected from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and The Engineering Advancement Association of Japan, plus five to 10 other public organizations. The national Project Management Association of Japan (PMAJ) was born in 2005 thorough the integration of the Japan Project Management Forum (JPMF – pioneer of Japan’s project management society) and Project Management Professionals Certification Center (PMCC).
