Danish Mega Projects expert to address MegaProjetos 2008 International Symposium in Sao Paulo
Projectlab has announced that Bent Flyvbjerg, one of the world’s leading experts on the management of mega projects, will be a keynote speaker at the April MegaProjetos 2008 Symposium in Sao Paulo. The MegaProjetos 2008 International Seminar and Exhibition will be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil during 3-4 April 2008.
Considered one of the world’s most respected experts on the subject of mega projects, Bent is founding director of Denmark´s Aalborg University Research Program on Megaprojects. Doctor of Technology and Engineering and Doctor of Science, Bent also holds a Ph.D. in Urban Geography and Planning. He was twice a Visiting Fulbright Scholar to UCLA, Berkeley and at Harvard, as well as Visiting Fellow with the European University Institute in Florence.
Dr. Flyvbjerg’s books and articles have been translated into 18 languages. He has more than 20 years of experience from working as a policy and planning adviser to more than 40 public and private organizations, including the EU Commission, the United Nations, national and local governments, auditors general, banks, and private companies. A megaproject is a special type of project, generally defined as a very large enterprise that requires an investment of over a billion dollars. These projects attract a high level of public attention and political interest due to their strong direct and indirect impact on the community, on the environment and on public and private budgets. More and more mega projects are being developed throughout the world in various industries, like transportation, infra-structure, energy, oil and gas, telecommunications, information technology, aerospace, automotive, heavy construction, international events, defense, research & development, among others.
