Mounir Ajam to discuss famous UAE mega projects at MegaProjetos 2008 International Symposium in Sao Paulo
Projectlab has announced that Mounir Ajam, a leading project management expert who resides in Dubai and is an international correspondent for PMForum in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will be a featured keynote speaker at the April MegaProjetos 2008 Symposium in Sao Paulo. The MegaProjetos 2008 International Seminar and Exhibition will be held at the Frei Caneca Convention Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil during 3-4 April 2008.

Mounir Ajam (pictured) is a certified PMP – Project Management Professional - and Master of PMI´s Leadership Institute, as well as member of PMI’s 2008 EMEA Congress Project Action Team (CoPAT). He is an international correspondent for PMForum and PM World Today, and author of numerous articles on project management in the fields of engineering, construction, and oil & gas, where he has more than 20 years of experience as an engineer and project manager. Speaker at international events in Europe, USA, Asia and the Middle East, he is the founding president of GPPMA - Global Project and Process Management Association (www.gppma.org), based in Dubai, UAE. He is a co-founder and the CEO of SUKAD FZ-LLC, an Innovation Center, which operates across the Middle East.

Mounir will review some of Dubai’s world famous mega projects, including Burj Dubai, the tallest tower in the world, the famous Palms project (three projects), Dubai Metro, Dubailand, Cultural Village, Masdar Zero Emission City, among many other interesting projects that might not be as famous as Burj Dubai (pictured).

Some of the projects mentioned above, the Palm Projects, the World, Burj Dubai have clearly generated a great deal of global interest but the question is this what Dubai is all about?

The speaker will provide a brief history of this small Emirate (State) that is part of the seven emirates constituting the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The speech will include the above projects and some of the challenges and opportunities that they present to the developers and the community. However, the speaker will not stop here. Behind the glamour, history is being made in Dubai. The speech will not stop at mentioning the tallest, largest, biggest, or all of –est famous projects; rather we will present how this small almost void of natural resources is transforming into an all well round community to work, live, shop, and play in.

Dubai mega projects include an industrial city, a major logistical city with a huge airport, and port facilities that will help make Dubai an export hub rather than just re-export. Dubai is building a healthcare city that includes major global pharmaceuticals and medical institutions such as Harvard. Dubai is working on infrastructure and investing more than 26 billion dollar in new roads, metro system, and water ways. Dubai is building cultural village, sport city, Studio City, Smart City, and the list goes on.

The speaker will conclude with a visioning of the future and Abu Dhabi, Dubai’s big sister and oil rich but that is building a zero emission city and that has brought the University de Sorbonne and the Louvre Museum, among other ventures and their own mega projects.

A mega-project is a special type of project, generally defined as a very large enterprise that requires an investment of over a billion dollars. These projects attract a high level of public attention and political interest due to their strong direct and indirect impact on the community, on the environment and on public and private budgets. More and more mega projects are being developed throughout the world in various industries, like transportation, infra-structure, energy, oil and gas, telecommunications, information technology, aerospace, automotive, heavy construction, international events, defense, research & development, among others.

The International Seminar MegaProjetos 2008 will be the first event in Brazil that brings a wide view of key issues that are involved in major projects. Topics of great relevance to the success or failure of such projects such as management, environmental, financial, technological, organizational, communications, and political aspects will be discussed. Case studies of finished and on-going mega projects from Brazil and abroad will be presented and critical factors involved will be analyzed from the perspective of promoters, contractors, financiers, suppliers, managers, and other stakeholders. Anyone with an interest in such issues should plan to attend.

The MegaProjetos 2008 International Seminar & Exhibition will be conducted on April 3rd and 4th, 2008 (Thursday and Friday) at the Frei Caneca Convention Center, Rua Frei Caneca, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
