ESC Lille announces EDEN seminar on the Nine Schools of Project Management at summer workshop
ESC Lille and the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM) have announced a summer workshop to be held at the French business school's campus in Lille, France. ESC Lille's workshop in Project Management, now in its eighth year, will consist of a special EDEN seminar on the nine schools of project management, and will take place from August 18 to 22, 2008.
As an intensive one-week session, given in English, the seminar aims to provide a forum for doctoral students, academics and experts in project management where they can exchange information on research methodologies and theoretical paradigms as well as to introduce them to the ‘nine schools of thought.’
The nine schools of project management
Modern project management had its genesis as an off-shoot of Operations Research and Operations Management in the late 1940s. And for the past 60 years project and programme management has become a well-accepted way to manage organizations. Projects and programmes, as strategic processes, modify the conditions of the firm in its environment. Through them, resources and competencies are mobilized to create competitive advantage and other sources of value. As resources are easily shared by many organizations, the organization's competencies are the most important relevant driver and are at the source of competitive advantage and the creation of value.
Ever since, several schools of thought have developed, and nine are now identifiable. The aim of the EDEN seminar is to explore these nine schools as a basis for a theoretical approach to project management, to explore the research paradigms that potentially underpin each of the schools and the methodological approaches that follow.
An internationally recognized expertise in project and programme management
Confirming the school’s solid background in project management, the EDEN seminar is well-suited to ESC Lille’s education environment. Indeed, the school has been a pioneer and a world leader in project management since the 1970s. Its many dedicated programmes include a Specialised Master in Project and Programme Management; an MSc in Programme, Project Management and Business Development; an MBA with a major in PPM; a PhD in Strategy, Programme and Project Management; as well as tailor-made Executive education programmes specialized in project management. All of these programmes are PMI GACPM accredited by the Project Management Institute.

Educating European management scholars, scientists and teachers
The EDEN programme is a unique European resource for enhancing doctoral education in the Management Sciences. In partnership with EIASM, an international network for management research and teaching, that includes more than 40,000 management scientists from all over the world, EDEN has become an intercontinental reference for doctoral education in management. Since the programme’s conception in 1988, more than 2000 doctoral students from Europe have become EDEN fellows and almost 250 professors have acted as EDEN faculty members.
The seminar will be held at ESC Lille, the Lille School of Management, Lille, France. The programme will start on August 18, 2008 and is scheduled to end August 22, 2008. Interested doctoral students should apply to Nadine Sauzé at eden-PM@esc-lille.fr no later than June 20, 2008. Besides doctoral students, other researchers are welcome to participate.
