The PMI Dallas Chapter has announced that
Chuck Tryon will be a keynote speaker at its annual Professional Development Day (PDD) on Saturday, 12 April 2008. The annual PDD, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on April 12 at the Crowne Plaza North Dallas/Addison Hotel in Addison, Texas, USA, is expected to attract around 300 participants.
According to the chapter’s newsletter, Project Management is changing. Originally intended to plan, organize and control industrial, assembly line activities (Continuing Efforts), the discipline is now used to manage Single-Time Efforts (to create new products and apply new technology). These project types have distinct assumptions and require different management styles and a fresh application of familiar Project Management techniques.
Many organizations are finding that the Project Management skills they developed for one type of work are conflicting with and complicating newer project types. The resulting culture clash frustrates everyone involved and often dooms viable projects. While both types of projects coexist in most companies, focus is shifting away from traditional, predictable efforts toward high-risk Single-Time Efforts where the unknowns overwhelm known information.
In his speech on “What's So MODERN About PROJECT MANAGEMENT?”, Chuck Tryon (pictured) will contrast the assumptions of Continuing Efforts and Single-Time Efforts. He also identifies some of the most critical issues Information Age organizations must address. This information will be based on over two decades of research, consulting and training with some of the largest organizations in the United States. The concepts presented will also be applicable to any organization engaged in aggressive product development activities.
Chuck Tryon is a nationally respected educator and popular symposium speaker. He founded Tryon and Associates in 1986 to provide seminar training and consulting that helps organizations and individuals develop predictable and repeatable approaches to modern project management, knowledge management and business requirements. Mr. Tryon has also presented at the Knowledge and Project Management Symposium, Structured Development Forum (SDF) conference, Association for Systems Management (ASM) and Data Administration Management Association (DAMA) meetings.
The event, for which attendees will receive eight professional Development units (PDUs) for PMP recertification, will include three keynote speeches and breakout sessions of presentations on leading project management topics.
According to
Sherrie Karam, PMP, PMI Dallas VP Professional Development, “Mr. Tryon was selected as a keynote speaker this year because his experience and messages are so relevant to our theme ‘The Power of Project Management’. We are excited about this year’s event and look forward to another successful Professional Development Day in Dallas.”
