Senior Research Fellow Bob Owen becomes International Correspondent for PMForum in the UK
Mr. Bob Owen has been named an International Correspondent for www.pmforum.org. Mr. Owen has been involved with project management in various guises for more than 30 years. Most of these projects have been in the defence sector and many have been large or extremely large and international in nature.

Bob qualified in electronics in the Royal Air Force before being commissioned as a Pilot (Fast Jet) and then moving into intelligence. He has many years of defence experience, including roles in research, business development, project management and consultancy.

Having worked at a high level for many years, Bob decided to formalise his (lack of) education. He gained an MSc (Distinction) in Information Systems in 2004 and went on to study advanced project management for his PhD before being appointed (January 2008) Senior Research Fellow in the Salford Centre for Research & Innovation, the core of the UK’s most prestigious (6 Star) Research Institute for the Built & Human Environment.

His research concentrates on the implementation lean and agile project management in non-traditional sectors; he has published and presented widely. He has organised several conferences and is a popular speaker, having been invited by the Project Management Institute, the Association for Project Management and various commercial and academic organisations, many for repeat visits.
Bob is on the Northwest Committee of the Association for Project Management (APM) as Higher Education Institutes representative, and on the national KD2 – Knowledge, Development and Dissemination working group.

Manchester was the world's first industrialised city and played a central role during the Industrial Revolution; as the dominant international centre of textile manufacture and cotton spinning. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester - cite_note-Cottonopolis-10. Manchester today is a centre of the arts, the media, higher education and commerce.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, usually shortened to the United Kingdom, UK or Britain, is a country located off the northwest coast of mainland Europe. The UK is a political union of the four constituent countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK also has several overseas territories and dependences.

A constitutional monarchy, the UK has close relationships with 15 other “commonwealth realms” that share the same monarchy, Queen Elizabeth II, as head of state. A member of the G8, the UK is a highly developed country with the fourth largest domestic product in the world.

With a population of 60 million, it is the third most populous country in the European Union and is a founding member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the United Nations (UN), where it holds a permanent seat on the Security Council. The UK is also one of the world’s major nuclear powers and has an economy of approximately US$1.8 trillion. As the successor state to the British Empire, the UK retains influence throughout the world due to the extensive use of the English language, as well as through the world-spanning Commonwealth of Nations, which is ceremoniously led by the UK. Needless to say, Manchester and the UK are the source or sponsor of many programmes and projects, both in the UK and worldwide. The Association of Project Management (APM) in the UK has been one of the world’s leading professional associations for advancing project management for over 30 years and is currently seeking Chartered status.
