Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading member association for the project management profession, has opened registration for its PMI Global Congress 2008-Latin America, to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil during 11-13 August. The three-day event will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Sao Paulo, and will offer opportunities for project managers to learn about worldwide trends as they apply to everyday decisions.
“Worldwide organizations are confronted with many challenges – the economy and competition to mention two,” said
Gregory Balestrero (pictured at right), president and chief executive officer of PMI. “Project, program and portfolio management are key to successful organizations being able to overcome these challenges to achieve their goals on time and within budget even when schedules are compressed, budgets are cut and staffing is limited.”
Project management is a growing profession, and membership in PMI has grown to more than 11,500 members in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. Worldwide, PMI has more than 265,000 members in 174 countries.
PMI Global Congress 2008—Latin America will be the premier project management, educational and networking event in the Latin America region. Project managers learn new techniques, tools and best practices, gaining a global and regional perspective of their profession.
According to
Ricardo Viana Vargas (pictured at left), member of the PMI Board of Directors and chair of PMI’s Strategic Planning Committee, who also resides in Brazil, “Brazil is growing and changing rapidly now, and many of those changes are occurring as projects. As Brazil gains a more visible and important role in today’s global economy, we are also employing more and better project management. This conference will showcase not only Brazil’s but all of Latin America’s developments in this important professional field.”
The congress offers attendees more than 60 educational presentations within 13 areas of focus to meet a variety of career development paths. Some of this year’s areas of focus include advanced project management skills, communications, consulting skills, general business skills, industry specific issues, new project management trends, professional development, project management foundation skills, project management issues, sales and marketing skills and teaming.
Registration for the 2008 PMI Global Congress—Latin America is now open. The deadline for advance registration is 28 July 2008 after which on-site fees will apply. To register online and for more information on PMI Global Congress 2008—Latin America, visit
