Rodney Turner, University of Limerick and ESC Lille, jury member of the international student paper award, since it has been initiated by Roland Gareis, WU-Wien in 2002 and sponsored by Telekom Austria.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT GROUP, WU-Wien and ROLAND GAREIS CONSULTING organize annually the international and the austrian student paper award, to give student researchers an opportunity to present their results at the international happy projects conference held in Vienna. (
www.happyprojects.at). As the conference was on PROJECTS & SALES the participants were encouraged to hand in papers on these topics, but papers on all project and process management topics were accepted.
Winners of the international student paper award´08For the international student paper award we had 31 papers that entered the competition. The papers are written by Master, MBA and PhD students. The participants represented 16 universities and came from nations such as Australia, Austria, Denmark, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Romania, Russia, Serbia and the Ukraine.
- The 1st prize went to Barry Rodgers, ESC Lille Graduate School of Management, France for his paper “Selling a PMO to management as a centralised repository of project expertise”
- The 2nd prize was honoured to Gabriella Dancsecz, PhD student at University of Pannonia, Hungary for her paper “Assessing project excellence of international sport event projects”.
- The 3rd prize went to Catriona Burke, master student at University of Limerick in Ireland for her paper “Programme Management as a framework for implementing strategy: Brief flirtation or enduring marriage?”
Winners of the Austrian student paper award ´08- The 1st prize was honoured to Irene Fellner, graduate of the MBA of WU-Wien for her paper “Wohlbefinden - Schlüsselfaktor für den Projekterfolg” (Well-being key factor for project success).
- The 2nd prize was honoured to David Spreitzer, master student at WU-Wien for his paper “Scorecards in projekt- und prozessorientierten Unternehmen” (Score cards in project and process-oriented companies)
- The 3rd prize went to Astrid Eder, master student of WU-Wien for her paper “ Sales Aufgaben von Projektauftraggebern und Projektmanagern” (Sales tasks of project owners and project managers)

Dr. Martina Huemann is an International Correspondent for PMForum in Vienna, Austria. Martina is a member of the faculty of the PROJEKTMANAGEMENT GROUP, Vienna University of Business Administration, Austria and an Adjunct Professor for Project Management at ESC Lille, France. She is a network partner of ROLAND GAREIS CONSULTING, board member of Project Management Austria, and member of the IPMA Research & Development Management Board.
