A Workshop on Quality and Standards Resumed in Addis Ababa
Reported by Getachew Alemu in Ethiopia

A five day workshop on Quality and Standards has resumed in Addis Ababa. The workshop, which is organized by the Quality and Standards Authority of Ethiopia (QSAE), is supposed to focus on setting quality standards, ISO, laboratory tests, and other related issues.

A total of 15 African countries are represented in the workshop. According to Messay Girma, Director General of QSAE, quoted by ENA, the workshop is a continuation of similar workshops held in Sweden six months ago.

Setting quality standards, calibration, and a quality confirmation system on local products and imports are the central themes. The workshops will also look deeply into the best international cooperation instruments in the sector that could strengthen regional and continental collaboration.

QSAE is a government body responsible for overseeing the quality and standard aspects in the country with an overall business engagement in the areas of Ethiopian standards development, regulation enforcement, calibration, laboratory testing, batch product inspection, training, standards information and public education. It has 10 branches and representative offices including the ones in Djibouti and Moyale.
