"We know that social and environmental projects have specific aspects that demand the use of particular techniques," declares Mr.
Joao Gama Neto, PMP, vice-president for PMI-SP and responsible for this project. According to Mr. Neto, "our objective is to understand these needs and promote the proper knowledge among these organizations".
Professor Pfeiffer states that "the accumulated experience in the project management field has been shyly used in the social and environmental fields. This project has united leaders from NGOs coming from all over the country to discuss project management tools and that’s a challenge not only for them but for us too".
This is a pioneer program in the world, inspired from an operational model of a stock exchange. Through the website
www.bovespasocial.org.br, people and companies have the opportunity to invest in projects of Brazilian NGOs dedicated to education and to the environment. Since its launch, back in 2003, this initiative has gathered 9,4 millions of Reais (about US$ 5,9 million), which were invested in 73 projects around the country. BVS&A has been considered a model to be followed by other stock exchange offices in the world, according to the United Nations (UN).
