PMI Director Ricardo Vargas from Brazil to Speak at 2nd UT Dallas Project Management Symposium in August
The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) has announced that Ricardo Vargas, a member of the Board of Directors of the Project Management Institute (PMI), will be a featured speaker on day two of the 2nd Annual UT Dallas Project Management Symposium in August. The conference, subtitled "Leveraging Project Management for Business Success!", will be held in the School of Management building on the UT Dallas campus in Richardson, Texas, USA during 18-19 August 2008. Mr. Vargas will speak on Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008.

Ricardo Vargas (pictured left), is a Director-At-Large on PMI’s Board of Directors and Chair of the board’s Strategic Planning and Program Alignment Committee. From Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Ricardo has been a member of PMI since 1997 and is the first Brazilian to serve on the PMI Board of Directors.

Mr. Vargas received the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award and the PMI Product of the Year Award in 2005. He has served as president of the PMI Minas Gerais Chapter and as component mentor for PMI in Latin America from 2003 and 2006. He is also sponsor for the PMI Education Foundation in Brazil. Mr. Vargas participated in the revision of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), and was member of the PMBOK® Guide update project team in 2004. He was also chair of the Translation Verification Committee for the Brazilian Portuguese translation of the 2004 PMBOK®.

He is chair of Macrosolutions, a consulting company based in Brazil which also works in United States, Africa and Europe. He has authored nine books about project management, with more than 100,000 copies sold. Mr. Vargas was responsible, in the past 10 years, for more than $5 billion (U. S. dollars) projects in areas as telecom, IT, finance, oil and gas and energy. Mr. Vargas holds the Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential, a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in Earned Value Project Management from Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. He also earned a masters certificate in project management from George Washington University in Washington, D. C., USA,, and he has taught as a professor several MBA courses in Brazilian and American universities. He has presented several technical papers in this area, covering portfolio management, risk management, earned value, troubled projects and ethics. He is a member of the Institute for Global Ethics.

The 2 Day 2nd Annual UT Dallas Project Management Symposium in August will focus on topics important to organizations and industries in North Texas. The Conference will include an Opening Keynote address by UT Dallas President David Daniel, several other keynote presentations during the two days, over 40 professional presentations, three panel discussions, a project management vendors’ exhibition, a Monday evening networking reception, and a closing keynote address.
