14th Annual Earned Value Management Conference set for 9-10 June 2009 in London
Reported by Miles Shepherd in UK

The Annual EVA Earned Value conference has been announced for the second week of June. This major earned value analysis (EVA) conference, now in its 14th year, is being supported by the APM EV SIG, APM Group and the PMI College of Performance Management (PMI-CPM). The conference will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday 9th and 10th June at the Armourers Hall in London (dining room shown in photo), with training sessions and workshops on other days of that week.

With the consequences of the global downturn and the credit crunch still largely unknown, the pressure on project management to control costs in order to protect their organisations and jobs is likely to become heavier than ever before. In times of plenty the good practices extolled by project management are often treated casually.

Genuine tangible improvements often tend to be substituted for glossy process manuals and people with Napoleonic job titles, largely because they can be afforded. It's only when the chips are down that senior management takes project management, and the benefits of better accountability and control it can bring, more seriously. Now would be a good time to take another look at earned value, to see how it can be applied in your organization.

This year the head of Programme Controls for the 2012 Olympics will keynote day 1, whilst Gerald Howarth , Shadow Minister for Defence will keynote day 2. Some of the topics that are expected to be covered this year include the APM's Earned Value Guideline, Earned Value & Risk Guideline, earned schedule, earned value and governance, and the new APM EV Compass.

The full program, with speakers, workshops and networking opportunities, will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, all enquiries should be addressed to Steve Wake at swprojects@blueyonder.co.uk.
