Karin Bredin receives IPMA Young Research Award at the 23rd IPMA World Congress in Helsinki, Finland

Dr. Karin Bredin has been honored with the IPMA Young Research Award at the 23rd IPMA World Congress in Helsinki, Finland. Dr. Bredin received the award based on her achievements in project management research. Dr. Bredin accepted the award, and delivered her presentation Human Resource Management in project-based organizations at the congress research seminar on 16.6.2009.

Dr. Bredin expressed that it was a great honor to receive the IPMA Young Research Award: "The award does not only acknowledge my accomplishments as a researcher. Most of all, it highlights the importance of research that contributes to a greater knowledge of human resource management and people issues in organizations where projects are the everyday work environment for the majority of the employees. This kind of organizational forms will most likely be even more common in the future, and an increased understanding of HRM in such organizations could contribute to better possibilities for sustainable and competitive work practices and well-adapted people management systems." Dr. Martina Huemann, director of the IPMA Research Awards, member of the IPMA Research Management Board, and International Correspondent for PMForum in Vienna, Austria, explains IPMA established the IPMA Research Awards some years ago to promote excellent project management researchers, and continues: "In the category Young Researcher we recognize excellence in research of young researchers, who are getting established in that field. With Karin Bredin we have such a high potential in a research field of Human Resource Management in the context of project based organizations, which is gaining in importance." Dr. Bredin is Doctor of Science in Business and Economics, graduating in May 2008 from Linköping University. During her studies she was a visiting researcher at BI, Oslo, Norway, and at Centrim/SPRU, University of Brighton/Sussex, UK. Dr. Bredin is Licentiate of Science in Business and Economics, graduating in 2006.

Dr. Bredin is currently Assistant Professor in Business Administration, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Linköping University. She teaches on executive education programs, master programs and undergraduate programs and is the course director of several courses in Human Resource Management on masters as well as undergraduate levels. Besides teaching, Bredin is a member of the research groups KITE and epok at Linköping University, where she continues her research into human resource management in project-based organizations.

Dr. Bredin is a renowned speaker and lecturer, and has participated as speaker and workshop leader at three inspiration days on projects and project management at AstraZeneca in 2008, at the Working Life Galan, Globen, Stockholm in 2008, at the 2008 CRANET conference, Copenhagen Business School and at the HRM Executive Summer School and Copenhagen Business School in 2008 just to name a few.

Dr. Bredin has received several international awards, e.g. the Faculty Stipend Award for dissertation within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Best Paper award for paper written by young researcher at 2007 IRNOP VIII Project Research Conference, Brighton, UK and the 2006 IMIT-stipend Award to promising researcher at Institute of Management of Innovation and Technology.

The theme for the 23rd IPMA World Congress on Project Management in Helsinki is "Refresh Yourself".
