According to Wikipedia, Dallas is the third largest city in the state of Texas and the ninth-largest in the United States. With a 2007 estimated population of approximately 1.3 million, the city is the main economic center of the 12-county Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area that has an approximate population of 6,300,066 as of July 2008, making it the number one metropolitan area in population growth in the USA last year. It is also the center of the largest metro area in Texas.

Founded in 1841 and formally incorporated as a city in 1856, the city's economy is primarily based on banking, commerce, telecommunications, computer technology, energy, and transportation. Located in North Texas and a major city in the American South & Southwest, Dallas is the core of the largest inland metropolitan area in the United States that lacks any navigable link to the sea. The city's prominence despite this comes from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, its position along numerous railroad lines, a strong industrial and financial sector, and its status as a major inland port (due largely to the presence of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, one of the largest and busiest in the world).

The City of Dallas and its suburbs have one of the highest concentrations of corporate headquarters in the United States.

As such, one of the largest industries in the Metroplex is conducting business. The Metroplex also contains the largest Information Technology industry base in the state (often referred to as Silicon Prairie), owing to the large number of corporate IT projects and the presence of numerous electronics, computing and telecom firms such as Texas Instruments, Electronic Data Systems, Perot Systems, i2, AT&T, and Verizon in and around Dallas.

The Arts District in the northern section of Downtown is home to several arts venues, both existing and proposed. Notable venues in the district include the Dallas Museum of Art, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, The Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center, The Dallas Contemporary, and The Dallas Children's Theatre.. Venues under construction as part of the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts. include the Winspear Opera House, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre, and City Performance Hall.

Also according to Wikipedia, Texas is a state of the USA located in the country's Southern and Southwestern regions. With an area of 678,051 km² (261,797 square miles) and a population of 23.5 million in 254 counties, the state is second-largest in both area and population. About half the state's population resides in either the Dallas-Fort Worth or Houston metropolitan areas.

Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836 and existed as the independent Republic of Texas for nearly a decade. In 1845, it joined the United States as the 28th state. Texas is internationally known for its energy and aeronautics industries, and for the ship channel at the Port of Houston—the largest in the U.S. in international commerce and the sixth-largest port in the world. The state is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies and has the second-largest economy in the United States. In 2005, Texas had a gross state product of $989 billion, the second highest in the U.S. after California, after recently surpassing New York state. Gross state product per capita as of 2005 was $42,975.

Texas's growth is often attributed to the availability of jobs, the low cost of housing, the lack of a personal state income tax, low taxation and limited regulation of business, a geographic location in the center of the country, limited government, favorable climate in many areas of the state, and vast, plentiful supplies of oil and natural gas. The known petroleum deposits of Texas are about 8 billion barrels, which makes up approximately one-third of the known U. S. supply. Texas has 4.6 billion barrels of proven crude oil reserves. There are currently 33 billionaires residing in Texas today. Dallas has 11 billionaires, the most of any city in Texas.
