APM Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire Branch Student Prize
Reported by Philip Smelt in UK

Star date 17112009 and I had the pleasure as Chairman of the APM's Yorkshire & North Lincolnshire branch of awarding one of our post-graduate student prizes to Jane Crowther at the University of Huddersfield.

Earlier that morning Jane had received her MSc in Business Project Management from none other than Professor Patrick Stewart, the actor and Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield.

Patrick Stewart OBE has been the Chancellor of the University for several years now and takes a keen interest in their Award Ceremonies and regularly finds time in his busy schedule to boldly go [sic] and confer such awards.

Jane (pictured centre left), a Change Manager at HBOS based her dissertation around embedding change within an organization, questioning whether it was sufficient to rely on Project Management alone to achieve this, or whether the wider consideration and application of Change Management techniques were also needed. Jane's dissertation title was: "Acceptance of change: Can 'business-as-usual' be promptly achieved and embedded into an organisation by Project Management methodology alone?"

Eric Summers, Jane's Course Leader at the University informed me that her APM award was "well deserved".

This award (the real McCoy), is one of several graduate and post-graduate prizes that the APM Y&NL branch award to its Corporate Member Higher Educational Institutes. This is, however, the first year that the branch has awarded a prize at the University of Huddersfield, so Jane had better cling on [moan] to it. As well as a cheque for £125, Jane also received a selection of APM publications.

To further cement relations between the APM Y&NL branch and the University of Huddersfield, discussions were held between Eric Summers and myself to arrange an events programme for 2010.
