Project Management Association of Canada names Assessors for PM Competency Reviews
The Project Management Association of Canada - Association de Management de Projet du Canada (PMAC-AMPC) has announced that five Canadian project management leaders have been appointed competency assessors for IPMA certification reviews. PMAC-AMPC represents the IPMA (International Project Management Association) in Canada and has the unique challenge to represent their members not only locally but internationally as well.

One of the primary missions of the PMAC-AMPC is to provide independent third party assessments of project, program and project portfolio management competence for Canadian professionals. To that end, the organization provides a number of certification options. The levels of the IPMA certification range from the lowest, Level D, to the highest, Level A.

As part of the IPMA certification process in Canada, PMAC-AMPC has announced its five "First Assessors", as follows:

  • Morley Selver, P.Eng

  • Keith Farndale, P.Eng, PMP, MBA

  • Grant Kerr, B.SC, PMP, IMBA:

  • Kevin Aguanno, MAPM, IPMA-B, PMP:

  • Alex Jalalian, BCompSc(Honours):

The 4 level certification of IPMA not only provides a process where project managers can develop the skills necessary to lead and manage people but it provides a meaningful career path for project managers. Further information on the levels of certification can be viewed at http://www.pmac-ampc.ca/certification.

In compliance with IPMA regulations and international standard ISO 17024, the association operates an independent Certification Body (CB) to provide for competence (i.e. knowledge and experience) assessments of its members who are seeking PMAC-provided qualifications. The day-to-day operation of the CB is completely independent of the PMAC's Board of Directors. The Director of Certification, a PMAC's Board of Directors position, sits as the head of the CB's Strategic Management Board (SMB). Other SMB members include the head of Operational Management Board (OMB), the chair of Appeal Committee, and the chair of Scheme Committee. The SMB provides strategic guidance, while the OMB is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the CB. The current Director of Certification and Chair of the CB's SMB is Tamer Atiba.
