Reported by Luis Fasano in Panama CityMarch 10-12 marked another broken record in the history of the PMI Panama Chapter.
With
a total of 28 speeches and 3 Keynote Speakers for the event, 445
professionals registered for the 2nd Annual Symposium in Panama, twice
as many participants as in its first version in 2009.
Greg
Balestrero (PMI CEO - pictured at right),
Roberto Roy (Secretary of
METRO, Panama Government) and
Mike Kennedy (CH2MHILL Program Manager
for the Panama Canal Expansion Program) were the keynote speakers that
shared knowledge and vision on the future of this profession.
At
the opening of the 2nd Symposium Greg Balestrero shared with all how
fast is Latin America growing in Project Management due to the major
investments that are now taking place throughout this region.
A
key component of this event in Panama, was the participation of a total
of 54 students from local universities, that are starting to include
Project Management competencies as part of their career paths. In a
private session, PMI CEO Greg Balestrero again shared with them the
value of Project Management knowledge at college level, and how to
better prepare on this competence.
The event included speakers
from 9 different countries (Panama, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Colombia,
Argentina, Uruguay, United States, Mexico and Guatemala) and 4 areas of
focus including: Leadership, PMO building, Government, Construction and
PMI CPM seminars.
Companies from industries such as: energy,
consulting, banking, construction, insurance, drinks and beverages,
utilities, and others participated actively in the event.
In
addition to the PMI Panama Chapter, the event was co-organized with the
participation of the Panama Canal Authority and the support of sponsors
such as CH2MHILL, Banco General, Idea International, Grupo Sinergia,
Haxis Consultoria, Solusoft, PC-CAD, Sistema 10, Alpha Consultoria,
Project AM, GBM, Velociteach, Cadence, Expertia Consulting Group, and
PM Consultant.
