Asociacion Peruana de Direccion de Proyectos enters IPMA
Reported by Jouko Vaskimo in Helsinki

Asociacion Peruana de Direccion de Proyectos (apdp), the Peruvian Association for Project Management application for membership in the International Project Management Association (IPMA) was unanimously approved by the IPMA Council of Delegates at the council meeting on March 28th 2010 in The Hague, Netherlands. The apdp IPMA membership is a result of the IPMA LACC Project which is introducing Latin American countries to IPMA membership and operations.

apdp was represented in Council of Delegates meeting by their President, Mr Germán Gallardo Zevallos. He delivered a presentation in which he highlighted the conditions at Peru, and emphasized the growing and sustainable Peruvian economy, and the fact that Peru is one of the leading growth countries in the Latin America, and one of the few countries that have seen economic growth despite the international economic crisis. Mr Gallardo identified several issues, such as a strategic geopolitical location, the mining industry, a democratic and stable government, a well managed economy, and ranges of challenging projects as the main drivers for this positive development.

Mr Gallardo was very happy about apdp membership in IPMA, and said "I have realized the wonderful family IPMA is, because I saw in the discussions the different cultures, point of views, feelings expressed in words from all the delegates coming from different parts of the world. Such a family now have a new member, again with a different point of view, belong to IPMA is already a beautiful experience." Mr Gallardo can be contacted at german.gallardo@udep.pe . Mrs Brigitte Schaden, IPMA President, said "IPMA welcomes Peru in to the family! Peru fits perfect to IPMA. IPMA is a federal association, we are used to cultural diversity, and we love different views and appreciate the strength of different cultures. Peru has so many different areas in one country, the coast, highlands (the Andes) and the rain (cloud) forest. So they are used to deal with different environments and conditions. This is a wonderful preparation for being a member of IPMA!" Mrs Schaden can be contacted at Brigitte.Schaden@ipma.ch.

Mr Miles Shepherd, IPMA Council of Delegates Chairman, commented that it is particularly pleasing to see the Peruvian Association join IPMA: "Under the leadership of Mr Gallardo, we have seen them take the first, difficult steps to becoming an effective professional society. We look forward to their effective contribution to the work of IPMA internationally and hope that we will be able to support them in their continued development." apdp was warmly welcomed in to the global family of IPMA Member Associations by all participants of the IPMA Council of Delegates.
