Organizers
of the
PM-05: Advancing Project Management for the 21st Century, the
fifth Project Management Conference in Greece, have announced that Tom
Taylor, Former Chairman and Honorary Fellow of the UK's Association for
Project Management, will deliver a major address and chair a track
Saturday, 29 May 2010. The conference with the theme
"Concepts, Tools
& Techniques for Managing Successful Projects" will be held during
29-31 May 2010 at the Moevenpick Resort & Thalasso Hotel in
Heraklion, on the historic Mediterranean island of Crete. Tom's
presentation will be on the topic of
"Grasping the Opportunities of the
PM Decade" and will be the first in the conference track on the same
topic. Conference information at
http://2010.pmgreece.gr.
According
to Tom's abstract: Is project and programme management on a journey of
discovery itself? This stimulating and pointed presentation will
address some of the issues. What has been happening - recently and
further and much further back in time? What are the opportunities and
challenges of this decade and beyond? How will we know when we have
arrived? Will it be fun?"

According
to Tom (pictured right), "I want to try and set the stage and the mood
for thinking and for discussions on the directions and opportunities
for project and programme management. The last fifty years have seen an
acceleration of PPM despite the inevitable ups and downs of global and
national boom and gloom cycles including a rather difficult downturn
for many in the last few years in private and public sectors. What ever
the circumstances or the merits or successes of individual project and
programmes the PPM community appears to be on a forceful journey of its
own - as businesses, in academia, as associations and organisations."
"I
have an optimism that the project management community is taking
responsibility for its destiny," he added. "I will be interested to see
if these particular delegates agree with me."
Tom Taylor is a
founding partner of Buro Four - an eminent project management outfit
based in UK. He is a Certificated Project Manager, a former chairman
and current vice President of Association for Project Management (APM).
He was named and Honorary Fellow and received the Sir Monty Finneston
Award for lifetime achievement in 2009. Tom has over thirty years'
experience in front line project and programme management including the
Centenary Project for Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), the Cable
and Wireless College, National Tennis Centre for Lawn Tennis
Association (LTA) and with many other types of projects, contract forms
and teams. He is an active manager, advisor, consultant, lecturer,
speaker, author and occasional broadcaster - with an enthusiastic,
knowledgeable approach. His recent publications for project management
practitioners, through dashdot, include "Characteristics of Effective
Project Managers", "GMPM and other modern afflictions affecting project
managers", "Management in Practice" and "How to Select the Right
Project Manager" - which have touches of good sense and good humour. He
has also written well received books on Recession Survival and
Recession Recovery. He is continuing to research and promote further
pragmatic topics including PM's contributions to Sustainability, the
Environment and Green Issues.
