Members of the Executive Board (ExBo) of the International Project Management Association (IPMA) were in Crete to support the Greek Project Management Association's 5th Scientific Conference on Project Management (SCPM), also known as PM-05. Various IPMA leaders made presentations and led discussions over the three-day conference before convening two days of ExBo meetings during 1-2 June. The PM05 conference was held during 29-31 May at the Mövenpick Resort and Thalasso Hotel near the Greek city of Heraklion, on the Mediterranean island Crete, with approximately 180 delegates from 15 countries participating. IPMA President
Brigitte Schaden of Austria gave the inaugural keynote presentation on Saturday, 29 May, on the topic "
IPMA … Moving Forward!" Brigitte provided an overview of recent developments and status of IPMA, the world's oldest project management professional association and currently a federation of nearly 40 national member associations. IPMA now has approximately 54,000 members on all five continents.
According to Brigitte (pictured), "Tomorrow's requirements for project managers include mastering IT, language skills, the ability to work in cross cultural environments and virtual organizations working around the clock and around the world, and working in more matrix structures with fewer line managers."
Sunday, 30 May, featured a set of presentations by IPMA ExBo members on various aspects of IPMA. Following an introduction by Brigitte Schaden,
Roberto Mori (Italy), IPMA Vice President for Awards and Programs, provided an update on recent activities and plans for the balance of 2010, including awards presentations at the IPMA World Congress in Istanbul in November. According to Robert, there are 48 finalists this year from 13 countries, vying for three levels of IPMA awards.

Mladen Radujkovic (Croatia), IPMA Vice President for Education and Training, provided an overview of IPMA educational activities. According to Mladen, "IPMA is not in the training business." He described the IPMA Education & Training Board, upcoming Advanced Courses, and a Training of Trainers class planned in November at the IPMA World Congress in Istanbul.
Dr. Nino Grau (Germany), IPMA Vice president for Standards and Young Crew, described activities under his area of responsibility. He also mentioned IPMA involvement in the ISO 21500 committee that is developing a new International Project Management Standard. Miles Shepherd, IPMA Chair, is also chair of the ISO 21500 committee.

Miles Shepherd, Chair of the IPMA ExBo, then presented an overview of the ISO 21500 standard committee, with current status and future activities. According to Miles, a review draft should be available in late 2010, with the new standard scheduled for release in 2012.
On Sunday afternoon,
Alexander Tovb (Russia), IPMA Vice President for Certification, led a workshop on "the multilingual nature of the IPMA certification, the importance of IPMA certification in Greek, and PM Greek Certification plans".

Other IPMA vice presidents and members of the IPMA ExBo who also arrived late at the conference in order to attend the ExBo business meetings on 1-2 June included
Ruud Bolsius from The Netherlands and Prof
Qian Fupei from China.
Veikko Valila, IPMA Secretary General and former president of IPMA, was also at the PM05 conference in support of both IPMA and PM Greece and for the IPMA ExBo meeting on 1-2 June, along with staff from Austria and the Netherlands.
