Reported by Jürgen Oschadleus in SydneyDon
Christopherson of Morning Star Indigenous Inservices has been confirmed
as the opening keynote speaker for the AIPM's proceedings on Tuesday,
12 October.
Don
has lived and worked all his life in the Northern Territory, and has
family links in both North West Arnhemland and in Kakadu National Park.
He has worked for numerous Indigenous organisations, as well as in
various Government and tourism agencies in the Top End. These roles
have enabled him to travel to most of the communities and homelands in
the Territory.
The time Don has spent working in the remote and
urban areas of the N.T. has provided him with a wealth of experience
and knowledge, which he communicates to delegates in a balanced and
apolitical interactive learning experience.
Don's opening
session is followed by an empirical analysis of the relationship
between project team functionality and project performance, presented
by
Rob Young, the Regional Director Asia Pacific for Independent
Project Analysis Inc (IPA).
IPA
provides project benchmarking services to companies in the processing
and extractive industries. IPA globally conducts about 900 project
reviews per year and uses the data to conduct empirically based
research into drivers of project success and failure.
Rob has
worked for IPA since it opened an office in Melbourne in 1997 and has
been responsible for managing the Asia Pacific region since 2000.
Through working with IPA, Rob has gained insights into the performance
of hundreds of capital projects conducted in Australia and Asia, and
how these projects compare to similar projects conducted in the rest of
the world.
Rob has a degree in engineering, and worked in the
pulp and paper industry for 23 years before joining IPA. He has both
project management and operations management experience.
The
third keynote of the day will be delivered by
Francis Chan, the
President of the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management. Mr Chan is
also Chairman of Continue Professional Development and Membership
Committee of Chartered Management Institute (Hong Kong Branch), and is
a Director of Achieve Goal Management Consultants Ltd.
In
between his work commitments he is a PhD candidate in Management, and a
part time lecturer in the School of Continuing & Professional
Studies, Hong Kong Chinese University.
In recent years Mr. Chan
has been involved in many large projects in Hong Kong, including the
Hong Kong New Airport, West Rail, East Rail Extension, and the Lok Ma
Chau Rail, among many others.
Mr. Chan's keynote session marks
the end of the formal proceedings on 12 October, and will be followed
by the Project Management Achievement Awards dinner.
