The Project Management Institute (PMIŽ) will conduct the first PMI Research Working Session to be held in Latin America on Sunday, 5 November, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (local time) in Santiago, Chile. It precedes the opening of PMI Global Congress - Latin America during 6-8 November 2006. The research workshop is being organized at the request of project managers and researchers from throughout the region.

The project manager is Dr. Vaidotas Viliunas, pictured at right. At the last project meeting in September 2006 in Stockholm, details and improvements of the Thesaurus Module as well as ideas for the Competence Assessment Module were discussed. The project homepage www.pmcat.com shall in the future also be used by project management professionals as a communication and networking platform.
The Project is coordinated by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme Coordination Support Foundation and funded by the European Commission as Project No. LT/05/B/F/PP-171015. The official name of the project is "An Innovative, Web-based Tool for Self-testing, Training and Assessing Competencies of Project Management Professionals". The duration of the project is two years (2005-2007).



The main partners and contributors are the Lithuanian Project Management Association (Lithuania), Baltic Educational Technology Institute (Lithuania), Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Austria), University of Maribor (Slovenia), Nova Distance AB (Sweden), and ISM (contractor). The work in Austria is being coordinated and performed by PROJEKTMANAGEMENT GROUP under the direction of Professor Roland Gareis.

ISM University of Management and Economics is the contractor on the Leonardo da Vinci pilot project PM CAT. The project started in 2005 to develop an innovative, web-based tool for project management competence assessment and development. The tool is being created according to the international standards of the project management profession. Therefore, studies and consulting departments at ISM will be able to use this tool for both educational and consulting purposes. At the same time, university will contribute towards the promotion of the project management profession, as the long-term goal of the project is to adapt the international project management standard in Lithuania and promote the web-based portal for professionals in this field.
ISM project management experts are actively involved in the activities of the project and currently are conducting the International Project management survey in Lithuanian companies.
