The Asia Pacific Regional Project Management Forum

The Asia-Pacific Regional Project Management Forum was formed in November 1997. The Forum’s Charter was recently updated at a meeting in Cairns, Australia in October 2000.

The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM)

The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) is the peak body for project management in Australia. Formed in 1976 as the Project Managers' Forum, AIPM has been instrumental in progressing the profession of project management in Australia over the past 30 years.

AIPM’s role is to improve the knowledge, skills and competence of project team members, project managers and project directors, all of whom play a key role in the achievement of business objectives, not just project objectives. AIPM also aims to ensure that those involved at other levels in an organisation and the community understand the key role of project management in today's society.

Our Goals are to:

increase the awareness of project management as a profession,
progress the globalisation of project management,
recognise excellence in project management,
promote competency-based assessment for those working in project management, and
promote AIPM as the peak body for project management in Australia.

AIPM has chapters in every Australian state and territory, with a National Support Office in Sydney.

Project Management Research Committee, China

The Project Management Research Committee, China (PMRC) was established in June 1991. It is a non-profit trans-industry national academic organization.

PMRC joined International Project Management Association as a representation of P.R.China and became a member of IPMA. The PMRC is committed to promote the development of project management in China, and engages in the communication and exchanges with IPMA to improve project management in China.

The organization of PMRC is Chinese Research Society of Optimization, Overall Planning Method and Economic Mathematics sponsored by famous mathematician Hua Luogeng. Since the establishment of PMRC, it is committed to the basic construction of project management in China. PMRC has established C-PMBOK (Chinese-PMBOK), and engages in the specialization development of project management. It has introduced IPMA competence certification system to China and contributed a lot to the development of project management in China.

Project Management Associates founded in 1993 is a professional body dedicated to advancing project management professionals nationally in India. The major objectives of PMA are to:

Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA)

ENAA, based in Tokyo, was founded in 1978 as a non-profit organization based on corporate membership and dedicated to the promotion and capability enhancement of the Japanese engineering services industry. ENAA is participated in by 250 Japanese engineering and project industry companies and is supported by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

ENAA's Project Management Committee is a division of its Project Engineering Committee (steering organ) and has existed since ENAAs foundation as the association's strategic arm. The ENAA Project Management Committee objectives are to::

Advance the project management awareness and capability level of the overall industry through cross-fertilization
Conduct collective research on the state of the art of project management
Provide, through combined expertise, experience and efforts of member companies, practical solutions to project management issues
Provide a forum for professional development in project management

The committee is currently represented by 46 companies (mainly engineering and construction companies, and global manufacturing companies having engineering divisions). Its activities are carried out through committee meetings, steering member meetings, funded and non- funded research by task forces, seminars and training courses. The current themes of emphasis in the committee include the globalization of Japanese EC companies, creation of a core body for professional advancement of project management, cross-industry approaches to project management practices and competitiveness in project management technologies. Japan Project Management Forum

The Japan Project Management Forum is a division of Engineering Advancement Association ( ENAA) as a member-driven and open organization for project management professions is Japan. ENAA has been acting a Project Industry Initiative in Japan for more than two decades under the sponsorship of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

PMI New Zealand (PMINZ) was granted its charter to operate in New Zealand in 1994. It has experienced exceptional growth since then; with about 1,200 members, it is currently the one of the largest PMI chapters outside North America.

PMINZ has active branches operating in Christchurch (including Nelson group), Wellington (including Hawke's Bay group) and Auckland (including Hamilton group), and has regularly received international PMI awards in recognition of its success.

PMINZ has run a national conference annually since its formation - international speakers and delegates are most welcome to attend.

PMAP will soon be registering as Pakistani representative in International Project Management Association (IPMA)."

Russian Project Management Association (SOVNET)

The Project Management Association "SOVNET" was founded in 1990 as a professional non-profit organization acting under the legislation of the Russian Federation. SOVNET is a union of specialists, companies and businesses dealing with the development, execution and management of projects in various spheres, such as construction, industry, information technologies, telecommunications and consulting.

In 1991 SOVNET became a member of the International Project Management Association as a National Association. The Russian Project Management Association sees its primary goal as developing professional and competent project management in Russia and promoting its wide practical application.The key events in the sphere of professional project management in Russia since 1990 have been the following:

International Project Management symposiums held in Russia:
Moscow - 1991, 1993, 1995, 1999; Saint-Petersburg - 1997
Completed educational programs in the field of Project Analysis and Project Management of the World Bank implemented in cooperation with Russian organizations.
Postgraduate training in more than 50 universities and higher educational institutions of Russia and the CIS countries- the first group of project managers graduated from the State Technical University GTY (Ekaterinburg) in 1999; in 2001 and 2002 project managers graduated from the State Management University GUU (Moscow), etc.
Creating and publishing over 30 manuals, guidebooks, monographs, proceedings of conferences and symposiums, and other literature on project management in the Russian language. Over 300 articles were put out in Russian magazines and abroad.
A project management software and service market has been developed. Over 50 new consulting and engineering companies are successfully doing business in Russia and the CIS countries.
The scope of Project Management is broadening and the applications have become more numerous. The best progress has been seen in the fuel and energy sector, the investment and construction sphere, information systems and telecommunications, the industrial-military sector, the space industry, trade, infrastructure and others.
SOVNET branches have been established and are now successfully operating in Saint-Petersburg (1996), Samara (1997), Blagoveshchensk (1998), Ekaterinburg (1998), Nizhny Novgorod (2002). Ties have been established and joint work is being carried out with other regions and CIS countries.
The National Certification Program for certifying project management professionals has been developed and launched within the 4-level International Certification System (IPMA). Over 100 specialists have been granted certificates.
The Training-Consulting Center was established on the basis of the GASIS (State Academy of Professional Retraining and Development for Managers and Specialists in Investment) for enhancing the competence of project managers and training them for being certified.

Over the past 10 years professional project management in Russia has covered a long way from applying project management elements to single projects to creating integrated management systems for project-oriented companies and programs. For more on the Russian Project Management Association see
