The PM World Today International Editorial Advisory Council consists of representatives of some of the world’s leading universities and academic institutions with graduate programs in project management. These educators are professors of project management, directors of project management programs, or deans of graduate schools or departments of business, management or information technology. They have agreed to act as advisors to the Managing Editor of PM World Today, to provide a high level review of editorial policies, overall quality, and strategic issues associated with the future of this eJournal. ![]() Erling S. Andersen Erling S. Andersen is professor of Project Management and Information Systems at BI Norwegian School of Management, Oslo, Norway. He holds a Master in Economics from University of Oslo. Before joining BI NSM he was Associate professor in economics at University of Oslo and Dean of NKI College of Computer Science and Professor of Information Science at University of Bergen. He has been a visiting professor to University of Tokyo, Japan and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Cleland, Ph.D., is professor emeritus in the School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Dr. Cleland is the author or editor of 39 books on project management, engineering management and manufacturing management; he is the most published author of PM textbooks in the world. He has served as a consultant for both national and foreign companies, and is co-founder of the University of Pittsburgh’s Manufacturing Assistance Center (MAC), whose mission is to provide manufacturing systems technology assistance to small and mid-sized manufacturers in Western Pennsylvania. A long time member of the Project Management Institute (PMI®), David was named a Fellow of PMI in 1987and has received PMI’s Distinguished Contribution to Project Management Award an unprecedented three times. He is also director of the Professional MBA Program “Project & Process Management” at the university and manager of the research program: Project orientation (international). He was formerly a visiting professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Georgia Statue University in Atlanta, USA; at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland; and at the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada. He studied at Vienna Technical University and the University of Economics and Business Administration, receiving his doctorate in 1972. He was a post-doctoral visiting scholar at the University of California Los Angeles, USA, in 1976. From 1986 – 2002, Roland was chairman of the board of Project Management Austria, the Austrian professional project management association. Immediately following World War I, the Academy became a public World Trade University (Hochschule für Welthandel), offering a three-year degree program. The University was renamed again in 1975, this time to Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien (Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration). He is Head of the Department of Management and Marketing at UCC and was formerly Executive Dean of the Faculty of Commerce. Before coming to UCC he worked in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and at the London Business School. He studied Economics at Trinity College Dublin, and at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Social Anthropology at Sussex University, UK. Sebastian works with Ed Naughton of the Institute of Project Management, Ireland in the area of project management education and development and is Chairperson of the Academic Forum of the IPMA. Professor Hartman has over 30 years of experience in industry and government projects and programs valued at over $80 Billion. He is the author or editor of four books and has published over 200 papers and technical articles over the past 15 years. During that period, he has held positions as director of the Project Management Program at the University of Calgary as well as the prestigious NSERC/SSHRC/Industry Research Chair in Project Management. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce and Business Administration with post graduate studies in engineering from the University of Alabama. Before joining UTD in 1997 to develop and implement the graduate curriculum in project management, Mr. Joiner held various operations, project and training/organization effectiveness managerial positions at Texas Instruments (TI) during the previous 31 years. He is also an Adjunct Lecturer at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at the Hellenic Open University. One of the leading advocates of professional project management in Greece, Professor Pantouvakis is Founder and President of the Network of Project Managers in Greece (PM-Greece), the national member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA), the International Cost Engineering Council (ICEC), SENET (South Eastern Network), and MedNet (Mediterranean Network). He has published many papers, books, reports and professional articles on construction management, information technologies and project management; participated in many PM-related research projects over the last 20 years, and co-organized various PM-related conferences, workshops and scientific events. The National Technical University (NTUA) is the oldest and most prestigious educational institution of Greece in the field of technology, and has contributed unceasingly to the country's scientific, technical and economic development since its foundation in 1836. It is closely linked with Greece's struggle for independence, democracy and social progress. In Greek, NTUA is called the "Ethnicon Metsovion Polytechnion" which stands for National Metsovion Polytechnic. It was named "Metsovion" to honor the donors and benefactors Nikolaos Stournaris, Eleni Tositsa, Michail Tositsas and Georgios Averof, all from Metsovo, a small town in the region of Epirus, who made substantial donations in the last half of the 19th century. Poznyakov, PhD, Dr.Sc., is professor of Project Management and Information Systems at the State Academy for Top Managers in Investment Area, Moscow, Russia. He holds a Doctor of Science from University of Dnepropetrovsk. Before joining the State Academy for Top managers in Investment Area he was Head of Department for Computer-aided Management Systems at the Moscow Civil Engineering University. He has been a visiting professor at the University of London, UK and the Leipzig High Engineering School in Leipzig, Germany. He previously headed a project management training department for the World Bank in Moscow for the Russian construction industry. He has worked for several Russian consulting companies and the Ukrainian Academy of Science, for the space industry. He is also Head of the European Master in Project Management at the University, and visiting professor of project management at the University of Bilbao, Spain. He is President of the Experts Council of Project Management Association of Slovenia (ZPM), and Chairman of the IPMA (International Project Management Association) Research Management Board. He is also a ember of the EU Enterprise Policy Group – Professional Chamber, a member of the EU ECOLEAD Program Industrial Advisory Board, and liaison for ZPM cooperation with the Project Management Institute (PMI) in the USA. Brane Semolic has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (technology), and a BSc, M.Sc.and Ph.D.in Economics and Business Administration (project management and informatics) from the University of Maribor. Professor Semolic has 30 years of working experience as an expert, researcher, consultant, manager and project manager in industry and for the Slovene government. He spent four year as Counselor to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Republic of Slovenia (1990 – 1994) and has been a member of the International Association for Project Management (IPMA) since 1982. Rodney Turner, PhD Professor J Rodney Turner, MA, MSc, DPhil (Oxon), BE (Auck), CEng, FIMechE, FAPM, MInstD, is Professor of Project Management at the Kemmy Business School of the University of Limerick and the Lille School of Management. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney in Australia and Educatis University, Zurich, and Visiting Professor at Henley Management College in the UK and George Washington University, USA. He studied engineering at Auckland University and did his doctorate at Oxford University, where he was also for two years a post-doctoral research fellow. He worked for six years for ICI as a mechanical engineer and project manager, on the design, construction and maintenance of heavy process plant, and for three years with Coopers and Lybrand as a management consultant. Rodney Turner is the author or editor of fourteen books, including The Handbook of Project-based Management, the best selling book published by McGraw-Hill, and the Gower Handbook of Project Management. He is editor of The International Journal of Project Management, (since May 1993), and has written articles for journals, conferences and magazines. He lectures on and teaches project management world wide. From 1991 to 2004, Professor Turner was a member of Council of the UK’s Association for Project Management, with two years as Treasurer and two as Chairman. He is now a Vice-President. From 1999 to 2002, he was President and then Chairman of the International Project Management Association, the global federation of national associations in project management, of which APM is the largest member. He has also helped to establish the Benelux Region of the European Construction Institute as foundation Operations Director. Rodney is director of several SMEs and a member of the Institute of Directors. Professor Turner is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and of the Association for Project Management (APM). Professor Vaughan commenced his career with National Mutual Insurance in the field of Information Technology in 1972. During the last 30+ years, he has served a number of International Organizations around the world, including IBM, DEC, Unisys, Tandem, Cable & Wireless, Bell Canada, ANZ Banking Group and Bank of Montreal holding senior management positions in Technology related services. His career has covered the five major continents; he has lived and worked in Australia, the USA, Canada, Latin American countries, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Germany. Hew was once based in London, covering the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region. Hubert’s career has covered software development, professional services, technology consulting, project/program management, strategic planning as well as business development. He has held senior positions as Director, Assistant Vice President, and Vice President around the world. Hubert is a committee member of PMI’s CGC’s Program Management Credentialing Committee. Currently Mr. Vaughan is a Professor at the Institute of International Engineering Project Management of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He also teaches PM at the Graduate School of the China Academy of Science; Software College of Beijing University of Astronautics and Aeronautics; Software College of Nankai University, and the School of Software Engineering of the Harbin Institute of Technology. Apart from his teaching engagements, Hubert also acts as consultant for numerous State Owned Organizations in China. He is currently a program consultant for the China Galileo Navigation Satellite Program, an Advisor to the Jiangsu Provincial Transportation Technology Institute on Project Management, a Program Management Consultant to the 2010 Shanghai Expo, and most recently the Program Planner for the First Aviation Institute of China.
