Construction Information Sources (CIS) Database

Construction Information Sources (CIS) is an extensive collection of Internet sites that is believed to be of value to those in the A/E/C (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry. CIS includes search capabilities that dynamically generate query results directly from a database, as well as providing pre-defined categories. Over 1000 sites are listed. The CIS Home Page can be found at http://ctca.unb.ca/CTCA/sources/

The Construction Education Connection

Bradford L. Sims,Instructor/Ph.D. Student at Purdue University Building Construction Management Department informs the WWW Project Management Forum ...

I have created a website http://www.construction.st that is a good reference for both faculty and students of construction management programs. Currently there are numerous links to construction organizations, construction journals and educational research sites.

Due to the numerous links available on the internet and the time-consuming nature of locating them, I have not nearly been able to locate them all. I would like to increase the construction categories links with your help. Please email me with any site or category additions you would like to see as well as your comments on the usefulness of this site. There are many categories on this site that can benefit from your comments as to their value and growth. Since this site is new and still growing, it is not yet a hundred percent complete, I know that some categories may need to be added and some may need to be deleted.

Engineering New Record

The Engineeering News Record is an on line publication concerned with the engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) area of project management application. The ENR is an excellent resource for information on EPC projects with regular articles on project management. international project bids, careers and a directory of EPC government and industry Webs.

Building Projects Practice Manual

Practice Manual Task Force for the BC Building Industry (Canada) has initiated the writing of the management practices which are proven to be prudent for building projects.

The Task Force is made up of a cross-section of the industry, representing Owners/ Developers, Design Professionals, Constructors, Project Managers and Educators, with the Provincial Government also participating.

The Manual's structure and contents are defined and an Industry Exposure Draft is scheduled for completion and publication by December 2000. For more information visit http://www.bcprojectsmanual.com.

The Manual is a 'foundation' document covering the management practices needed for building projects to be well-run by all practitioners, from concept to completion. It also provides the rationale for the practices. Development of the Manual includes obtaining agreement about the practice, and promoting them through the recommendations of associations in the Province of British Columbia, Canada Building Industry. The manual, with customization, will be of interest in other jurisdictions

This is follow-up to Chris Quaife's last December report on the Canadian Province of British Columbia's Building Projects Practice Manual:

The Building Projects Practice Manual initiative took a significant step forward at the end of June through Task Force submission of the Core Draft to Industry Associations in BC. We are now far enough progressed to start considering whether and how the Practice Manual can be of interest in other geographical areas (when it reaches Exposure Draft Status, per commitment for this December).

The Practice Manual Task Force is a cooperative initiative of Associations which have formally endorsed their participation and which have members who are active in the management of projects in the BC Building Industry.

The Draft suggests that good practice is universal and hence there is consistency with other Manuals (but nothing identical since purposes and perspectives are all different).

Any comments?
