Gregory Balestro Appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Project Management Institute.

As CEO, Balestrero will provide chief executive leadership in the areas of board, executive relations and governance. He is accountable to the PMI Board of Directors for overall organizational performance in achieving the strategic direction established by the elected leadership. In his capacity as CEO, Balestrero is expected to offer key executive oversight of operational strategies, priorities, decision-making and conduct of Institute business.

Balestrero has over 20 years of executive level association experience, most recently serving as executive director of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), an organization for construction professionals in non-residential building construction, based in Alexandria, Virginia USA. He previously held the position of executive director at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) and is chairman-elect of the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Rebecca Ann Winston, Chair, PMI Board of Directors. said that...

Russell D. Archibald, APM Fellow, PMI Fellow, PMP

Russell Archibald has more than 50 years of broad international experience in program and project management, as well as operations and engineering management. He has experienced three project management related careers:

Management Consultant (24 years, Archibald Associates; CPM Systems, Inc.; Booz, Allen & Hamilton), in project and strategic management. He has consulted in 12 countries on 4 continents to large and small companies in telecommunications, information technology, industrial, engineering, construction, consumer product and service sectors, plus federal and local government agencies and international development banks. Russ has also presented expert witness testimony on nuclear power plant and pipeline construction projects, and on litigation involving project management software application packages.

Corporate: (15 years), as a mechanical engineer in petroleum refinery construction and operation (Creole Petroleum, Venezuela), and project manager and senior executive in telecommunications (ITT Corp.) and in automotive manufacturing (Bendix Corp.) in France, India and the United States.

United States Air Force (USAF)/Aerospace (12 years), as a Senior Pilot, project officer, design and project engineer, and manager with the USAF Air Research and Development Command, Aerojet General and Hughes Aircraft.

Russ is the co-author of Network Based Management Information Systems (PERT/CPM) (Wiley, 1967); plus articles and papers presented at the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Project Management Association (IPMA) meetings in North America and Europe. He holds Bachelor of Science (University of Missouri) and Master of Science (University of Texas, Austin) degrees in mechanical engineering, is a Fellow and Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) of the Project Management Institute (member No. 6, one of the five original trustees), a Fellow of the Association of Project Management/APM-U.K./IPMA, and is listed in Who's Who in the World.

At ITT he wrote the ITT corporate "Project Management Guide," reflecting current practices in several aerospace and high technology ITT companies, and with ITT's permission his 1976 book, "Managing High-Technology Programs and Projects" ( Wiley), was based largely on that Guide. That book was also published in Japanese and Italian, and the 1992 second edition has been published in Italian and recently, in September 2002, in Russian. This edition is still in wide use in industry and at universities in the U. S., and the third edition is due for publication in March 2003. The Russian publisher, Information Technology Company, and IBM-Russia sponsored a one day PM conference in Moscow , to launch Russ' Russian edition, with the support of the Moscow PMI Chapter and SOVNET, the Russian member of IPMA. Presentations at that conference were made by Russ Archibald, Prof. Dr. V. Voropajev, SOVNET President, Prof. Dr. V. Liberzon, PMI Moscow Chapter President, O. Yapparov, IT Co., A.
