Roland
Gareis conducted his studies at the University of Economics and Business Administration,
Vienna and did his habilitation at University of Technology, Vienna, Department
of Construction Industry (Datum?) He was Professor at the Georgia Institute
of Technology in Atlanta and Visiting professor at the ETH, Zurich, at the
Georgia State University, Atlanta and at the University of Quebec, Montreal.
Roland Gareis is Professor of Project Management at the University
of Economics and Business Administration Vienna Austria. There he established
the post graduate programme "International Project Management" in
1983. He chairs the PROJEKT
MANAGEMENT GROUP, which was founded at the University of Economics, Vienna
in 1994.
From 1986 until 2002 he was president of PROJEKT MANAGEMENT
AUSTRIA, the Austrian project management association. In 1990 he organized
the IPMA World Congress on "Management by Projects" in Vienna. He
is former director of research of the IPMA-International Project Management
Association.
Research contributions by Roland Gareis to the establishment
of project management as a discipline and profession are:
- 1988-1991: Research programme "Management by Projects"; development
of a systemic-constructivistic project management approach, definition of
the construct of "the Project-Oriented Company" (Book publications:
"Projektmanagement im Maschinen- und Anlagenbau" and "Management
by Projects")
- 1992-1993: Research programme "Crisis Management"; development
of models for crisis management in projects and in the project-oriented
company (Book publication: "Erfolgsfaktor Krise")
- 1995-1998: Research Programme "Project Management - A Business Process
of the Project-oriented Company"; development of a process-oriented
project management approach, benchmarking of the project management processes
of project-oriented companies (Book publication "Global Project Management
Handbook", with David Cleland)
- 1999 - 2002: Research Programme "Project-oriented
Society" and "programm I austria"; development of the
model of the project-oriented society, assessment and benchmarking of project-oriented
societies
- 2003 - 2006: Research Programme "project and process orientation";
development of models for project-oriented regions, cities, and clusters
(Book publication "Management in the Project-oriented Society"
Consulting contributions by Roland Gareis to the establishment
of project management as a discipline and profession are:
- 1982: Establishment of ROLAND
GAREIS CONSULTING; consulting national and international project-oriented
companies of all industries in the development of strategies, structures
and cultures; consulting projects and programmes
- 1983: Organization of the Austrian pm days for the first time; since
than this annual event grew to an international event with a research conference,
a practice conference, and expert seminars for some 350 participants
- 2001: Development of a licensing service of ROLAND GAREIS Project and
Programme Management® and ROLAND GAREIS Management of the Project-Oriented
Company®
- 2002: Development of a Maturity Model for the Project-oriented Company
