Laurie Cooke, formerly PMI's Director of Career Management, has been appointed CEO of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association, a non-profit association formed in 1979 to help women in healthcare advance their careers. Ms. Cooke's last day at PMI was Friday, April 21.
Laurie Cooke joined PMI in October 2001 as Director of Professional Programs. In a subsequent realignment of professional duties she assumed the position of Director, Career Management, where she had responsibility for accreditation, certification, professional development, and OPM3 Product Suite.
Ms. Cooke has established a record of accomplishment during the past four and half years that has shaped not only PMI but the discipline of project management itself. PMI's Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), for example, enrolls project team members in the same rigorous processes that were once the domain of the project manager only. Under Ms. Cooke's direction, PMI conducted additional market research and repositioned and relaunched the CAPM credential successfully in December 2004.
The OPM3 Product Suite is another of Ms. Cooke's contributions likely to significantly shape project management, driving repeatable processes at an organizational level.
pmforum.org asked Ms. Cooke to describe her most significant memories of her years at PMI. Her answer: "The people." "The volunteer leaders and staff have become my friends."
That feeling is mutual. Laurie Cooke has been a consistent friend and effective advocate of project management for four and a half years. She will be missed!
